Alma Mae Rowe Meek, age 90,

Alma Mae Rowe Meek, 90, went to her heavenly home Monday, September 30.

She was born July 19, 1923, in Jeffersonville and was the oldest of Larry M. Rowe and Birdie Richards Rowe’s two children.  She grew up in Jeffersonville and attended JeffersonvilleHigh School.  

She met her husband Earl Meek while working at J.J. Newberry’s Five and Dime- they were married in 1947 and lived together 41 blissful years until his death in June 1988. The Meeks were the proud parents of two children, Linda Snelling, and her husband J.E. “Ed” Snelling, of Edwardsville; and Larry Meek of Jeffersonville.  They had four grandchildren whom they loved dearly.  John B. Snelling, and his wife Kristina, of Phoenix; Eric C. Summers, and his wife Rachel, of Indianapolis; Amanda Harvey, and her husband Jason of Charlestown; and CPT. Douglas E. Snelling, US Army, of Lawton, OK.  

Six great-grandchildren also survive their Grandma Meek.  Brandon Snelling, Reagan Harvey, Justin Snelling, Natalie Summers, Julia Harvey, and Kaylee Summers.

Alma is also survived by her sister in-law Iona Ettel, brother in-law Dave Wilburn, and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Alma was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church in Jeffersonville, where she was a life-long member.  She was a member of the Koinonia Sunday School Class and had some of her favorite memories with the Joyriders and Hilltoppers.  She taught Sunday School for many years and her family has enjoyed her countless stories from these experiences.  

She was a gifted artist and loved to paint beautiful masterpieces.  Alma was a member of the Clark County Association of Arts and Crafts, she enjoyed teaching art classes at the church, and leading arts and crafts for the kids at yearly Vacation Bible School events.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved to have art time with Grandma as well.

Alma was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Ruby Katherine “Kate” Wilburn.

A celebration of Alma’s life will be held Friday, October 4, at 11 a.m. at Coots’ Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, with visiting hours from 10-11 a.m. With entombment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, October 3 at the funeral home
