Betty Jean (Pangburn) Shanahan, 82, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at HillcrestVillage. She was born November 23, 1930 in Jeffersonville to the late Thomas and Hazel (Sparks) Pangburn. Betty was the mother to seven children, a waitress at the Colonial Inn, River City Café, and Harbor House. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 35 and VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 1832. She loved bowling, playing bingo and cards and going out to eat with her family. She was married to the late Sgt. David Shanahan, Sr. living in Germany, France, and several states.

Betty is survived by her children Lt. Col. David Shanahan, Jr. (Retired USAF) and his wife Diane of Euless, TX., Donna Roubicek and husband  Peter of Atlanta, GA., Col. Michael Shanahan (Retired USAF) and wife Gisela of Monument, CO., Susan Cable and husband Clark of Jeffersonville, IN., Jackie Ferch and husband Patrick of Jeffersonville, IN., Pam Stewart and husband Jim of Elizabeth , IN., Tom Shanahan of Jeffersonville, IN.; grandchildren Chris and Matt Shanahan, Michael Shepard (Army 1st Lieutenant), Sean Shanahan (deployed to Afghanistan), Kyle Shanahan, Christina Sonner, Catherine and Jason Cable, Melissa McGehee, Sheena Navarro, Capt. James Stewart (Army Active Duty), Sgt. Justine Stewart (Army Reserve), Sarah Stewart, and Joshua Shanahan; great-grandchildren Sierra, Stephen (USMC Active Duty), Sterling, Spencer, Ellie, Jack, Savanna, Trisha, Wesley, Austin, Kevin, Kaylee, and Jaxson; sisters Joyce Haworth and Donna Grose; brother Bill Pangburn all of Jeffersonville.

She was preceded in death by her husband David Shanahan Sr.; granddaughter Ashley Shanahan; brothers Chester, Tom and  Kenneth Pangburn; and her sister Barbara Pangburn.

Rev. Jennifer Mills-Knutsen of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ will officiate the graveside service at Walnut Ridge Cemetery  to be held Friday, October 18, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. E.M. Coots’ Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice, the staff at HillcrestVillage and the staff and friends at Windsor Ridge.

    My condolence to Betty's children, I seen first hand how much they cared for her and adored her. I know how much they will miss her.. Rest in Peace Betty.
