Charles Ettel

Mr. Charles Henry Ettel, 88, of Jeffersonville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. Charles was born on November 22, 1929, in Clark County to Grace Huffman Ettel and Edward Lewis Ettel. Charlie served in the Korean War. During his early life, Charlie worked for Heiser’s Chicken Hatchery as an inspector, and later as foreman for Fetter Bros in Jeffersonville where he retired. Charlie would work evenings and weekends with Al Cunningham caring for pets at Cunnie’s Kennels in Watson. Upon Al’s passing, Charlie and Jean Ettel became owners of Cunnie’s Kennels making it one of the best known pet care locations in southern Indiana. Charlie had a strong work ethic but it was his passion and love for hunting, fishing, raising numerous animals, canaries, and gardening throughout his later life which he shared with family and friends. There was never a day that went by he wasn’t working to provide for his family.

On March 7, 1951, Charlie met and married Jean “Bitsy” Biesel at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Clarksville and were married 54 years until her passing in 2005. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean, and one brother Edward Ettel, Jr.

He is survived by two brothers, Mac (Charlene) Ettel, Georgetown, Indiana, and Walter (Virginia Morene) Ettel, Clarksville, four sons Dennis (Joann) Ettel, Marysville, Mike (Jerri) Ettel, Marysville, Chuck Ettel, Marysville, Frank ( Marci) Ettel, Sellersburg, granddaughters Chelsie Ettel, Morgan Ettel, grandson Tyler Ettel, and eight nieces and nephews.

Charlie was a good friend to me when I ran Dave's Produce back in the 70s and 80s. He was a fine man and a hard worker. RIP Charlie, you have earned it.
